Ile De La Tortue by Frere Joel and La Bonne Nouvelle

Here is a presentation of the island of Haiti called Ile De La Tortue by Frere Joel and Madame Frere Joel.

If you drive 30 minutes to the east of Port-de-Paix, you will reach a pretty coastal town 'St Louis du Nord'. From here you can find sailing boats (local' $0.50 and foreigner up to $10.00) to cross the 10 km channel to the town of 'Cayonne 'in Tortuga Island. 'Pointe Saline' is a two hours drive by car from 'Palmiste'. It is the driest part of the island. There is a large cave (La Grotte au Bassin) with a 10 meter high pre-Columbian rock carving of a goddess 6 km east of Palmiste.

There are two more caves-- 'Trou d'Enfer' near La Rochelle ravine and 'La Grotte de la Galerie' which is one kilometer east of Trou d'Enfer. Other nearby attractions include: a 15 meter high lime kiln ruin 'four à chaux', built at the end of the 18th century and 70 meters high Fort de la Roche built in 1639.
