Here is President Michel Martelly delivering his last speech at the United Nation on October 1, 2015

On October 1, 2015, Haiti's President Michel Martelly has addressed the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN in New York. The seventieth session held between September 28 and 30 was based on the theme "The United Nations at 70 - A New Commitment To Action". The President was accompanied by his wife, and his important ministers like Ministers of Economy and Finance, Wilson Laleau, Minister of Foreign Affairs Lener Renaud, Minister of Planning and External Cooperation, Yves Germain Joseph.

During his speech, the Haitian President has thanked and appreciated the role of UN for providing ongoing assistance to Haiti. He has mentioned that the country is preparing itself to have a democratically elected government through presidential, legislative, municipal and territorial elections by the end of the year. He has also reminded that, one year ago, the UN Secretary- General, on a report to the Security Council of the UN, had suggested that holding of a comprehensive election is a prerequisite for the consolidation of democracy, rule of law and promotion of development in Haiti. The Haitian people are showing signs of political maturity to take control of their destiny and Haiti is on the right path to elect their representatives in the administration as they understand that it is the right path for the country's stability through political transition. He also appreciated the role played by United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH); with their presence for last 11 years in the country, the present administration has been able to strengthen the country's human rights, administration, democracy, defense and security. Within the last four years, the situation of education, water and sanitation have been improved. He has also mentioned that the UN should understand that local problems should be tackled with a global approach. Alarming threats from non-state entities which are attacking civilian populations and destroying cultural heritage must be collectively addressed by the international community. We must reduce the North-South divide, fight intensively to reduce poverty.
