Administrative city Project in Port-au-Prince underway

Since the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, a portion of Port-au-Prince has been declared of public utility. First, former president Rene Preval had declared that 200 hectares of land would be taken by the government under imminent domain. The Martelly government had decreased the area to 30 hectares.

On Sunday, major work has started to make this dream a reality. Bulldozers began the demolition work by leveling the houses located in the area.

According to the Secretary of State for Planning, Michel Présumé, compensation are available for the home howners who have been affected. Between 20 and 30 million U.S. dollars was available to compensate homeowners who can present title for their property.

The demolition works are the first phase in the implementation of the plan to build the future administrative city in Port-au-Prince.

The administrative city is expected to cost about 150 million dollars. The money for the project will be coming from Petrocaribe, the Treasury and money from the cancellation of Haiti's debt by several countries
